In brief about Centre for Communicable Diseases and AIDS
The Centre for Communicable Diseases and AIDS (hereafter: the Centre) was established on 1st October 2009 by reorganization of two previous
institutions: the Centre for Prevention and Control of Communicable Diseases and the Lithuanian AIDS Centre (Order No V-399 of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Lithuania, 22nd May, 2009) (Official
Gazette, 2009, No 61-2422).
The goal of the new institution is coordination of the national response to all communicable diseases. Objectives of the Centre:
- Implement the Governmental policy on prevention and management of communicable diseases, launch and implement epidemiological surveillance of communicable diseases.
- Organise and coordinate vaccination of Lithuanian population.
- Administer the governmental system of communicable diseases and their agents.
- Provide individual (laboratory diagnostics and immunoprophylaxis) and public health care services.
The Centre is a governmental institution budgeted from the State budget, and subordinated to the Ministry of Health.
